My name is Kathy Currie and I am the new teacher at the Nye School. I have taught for many years in a rural but large school in northern Michigan, Whittemore-Prescott. Looking for new experiences and adventures led me to look for a teaching position in Montana and I have landed in this heavenly spot in south central Montana. The school is classic, the view is incredible, the people are so helpful and welcoming, and, of course, the kids are kids and ready for anything.
I have eight students this year. There are two Kindergarten girls and one first grade girl. They are the chatterbox trio. In such a small community, they are friends in and out of school and very comfortable with each other. Their eagerness to work, work, work is wonderful and they all want homework every night. I also have two third grade students, two fourth grade students, and our new student this year is the old man in the group, a sixth grader. We are stumbling through the first week, getting schedules set and the room organized.
I have been told that a school pet is the normal order of business. I had a dog named Lady who would have loved to laze around the school and bark at real and imagined creatures skulking around outside. Lady lived a long and pampered life. I'm thinking it is time to look for a new dog. The children agree. You may have noticed that the school pet has its own web page so I'd better look for one with a high doggie I.Q. and a talent for writing (and it wouldn't hurt if they had a fearsome bark for any large mammals that might wander by).
I would love to hear from anyone visiting our site who has questions or ideas for collaboration across the Internet. It's amazing how being on-line takes us away from our little one room school and allows us to explore the world.
Thank you for visiting our site and don’t forget to check out the students’ WebPages.
