Nye Elementary School Nye, Montana |
Welcome to the Nye School Home page! The Nye School is a one room
schoolhouse for students in Grades K through Six, located
at the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains in Nye, Montana, approximately
80 miles southwest of Billings. We currently have 4 students ranging in
age from 5 to 8. We also have a playgroup for children up to pre-school as well as a pre-school academic group for four year olds. Both groups meet once a week at the school.
Nye is home to the Stillwater Mine, one of only three
platinum/palladium mines in the world. Many of our students' parents are employed
by the mine. Others are cattle ranchers or are self-employed. Our school is built of weathered, round stones from the nearby Stillwater
River, and and sits on approximately 6 acres near the river. Wildlife
abounds in our area. White tail deer, turkeys, chipmunks, and raccoons are
frequent visitors to the schoolyard, as well as less welcome guests such as
skunks, mountain lions, bears, and wolves which have strayed from
Yellowstone Park.
Our students, our teacher, as well as several other "creatures" have posted some information on their individual pages. We hope you enjoy reading about us and would love to hear from you.
